On our way to Toad Suck, Rich and I were talking about
the name and we decided it was either going to be really good or really bad… It
certainly wasn’t really good, but I’m not sure I can say it was really bad - just kind of bad. The
restrooms were awful – old, small, dirty – and only two for the entire park.
The park itself wasn’t particularly well maintained and the sites were close
together with no buffer between.
There
was just something rundown and sketchy about it.

Uschi, Vivien, and Thomas |
Our reason for being at Toad Suck was its proximity to
Conway, which was one of the stops Thomas, a former postdoc at QTP, his wife
Uschi, and their daughter Vivien were making on their trip while in the U.S. from
their home in Germany. It had been
several years since I had seen Thomas, more than ten since I had seen Uschi,
and we had never seen Vivien, so we were happy that we could meet up with them.
Our reunion with Thomas and family was great and we had a good dinner and did
lots of catching up and reminiscing.
During our stay in Toad Suck, we found a wonderful Greek
café, Taziki, and enjoyed it several times. All in all, it was well worth the
stop.
