Tickfaw State Park, Springfield, LA; Sept 5-8, 2013

Once again we’re in Tickfaw for a couple of days. We’ve been eagerly awaiting more boudin and will head into the truck and headed out for Jerry Lee’s Cajun Food where we picked up some of his wonderful boudin, a couple of Annie’s desserts (sadly, no pecan or sweet potato pie this time), and some of the yummiest coconut caramel candy either of us has ever eaten. Then we turned around and headed back to camp to fix dinner.

Gator sales
The next afternoon we drove down to Pierre Part where we got more of the delicious crawfish boudin at the Pierre Part Store, tried some cracker pudding (they also had pies, but we decided to be semi-good and split a small container of pudding. It was delicious and tasted like good homemade vanilla pudding but had saltines crumbled up in it – I suppose to thicken it? Or maybe stretch it to feed more people. I found several recipes online and will have to try one.

Beautiful spot in Pierre Part
While we were in Pierre Part, we stopped by the Shell station that Troy Landry’s Dad has and were told that although they had just sent out most of the gators that were caught that day, there was a big one left and the folks were still there as well, so we walked on back.  Everyone was friendly and we were walked into the big room where they ice the gators down while waiting to ship them out by Troy’s brother and he showed us the big gator and a huge catfish they had caught as well.

Pretty spot
Once we left there, we stopped at Landry’s Seafood and once again enjoyed a wonderful dinner of appetizers – the frog legs were cooked to perfection again, as was the gator tail, we tried their onion rings and got a huge portion, the gumbo was again tasty, Rich had some fried fish, and I can’t remember what else we had, but it was all great.

We drove back that evening, the next day I did laundry, we took a short hike where we saw a Luna moth (only the second one I've ever seen), and a big banana spider on the suspension bridge. We left the following morning, spent the night at a Mississippi State Park (not particularly impressive, but it could have been due to lack of funds), and headed on to Arkansas.
Boy "gator surfing"

When you enlarge either of the photos with the gator your can get an idea of how large the catfish is.
