Red Ledge RV Park, Kanarraville, UT;
April 27 to June 9, 2014
Once again, we were stunned with the
views. The road travels through a part of the canyon that is not as
well-traveled as the main canyon, thus private vehicles are allowed.
We spent about five hours gwaking at the views on the 50 mile
round-trip. The road was built during the late 1920's and became part
of a loop tour of Zion, Bryce Canyon, Cedar Breaks and the North Rim
of Grand Canyon National Park. There is a tunnel more than a mile
long near the end of the road, and during its day was the longest
non-urban tunnel in the US. The tunnel's dimensions require that
vehicles over 11.33 feet or 7.83 feet in width give advance notice so
that two-way traffic can be shut down in the tunnel, allowing the
oversize vehicle to proceed down the center of the tunnel Vehicles
over 13.08 feet, semi-trailers, bicycles, and pedestrians are
prohibited in the tunnel.
This was another spectacular drive and
is so different from any of the other drives that it's well worth the
effort.
