Nebraska, Iowa, to Goshen, Indiana –
June 11-18, 2014
Since we traveled most of this route
last year and since we were both exhausted from traveling all day,
and worrying about was in store for us with the RV, I didn't take
many photos on this leg of the trip. The morning we left Colorado we
saw the last snow-capped mountains we'd see this year, I did get
another beautiful sunset in Chappell, NE (no matter how many I've
seen, a sunrise or sunset is something to behold), and a pair of does
in Iowa. We spent a full day in Nebraska and another in Iowa to get
more packed, firm up our storage unit rental, and finish up
arrangements for dropping off the RV at Forest River in Goshen.
We arrived at the Elkhart County 4-H
Fairgrounds, where we would stay for two nights. It was about ten
miles from our storage unit but that is the only good thing I can say
about it. I don't think there was a square foot of the “campground”
that was level and the restrooms were a quarter of a mile away.
We got nearly everything to the storage
our first full day there and on the way back to camp passed through
an area of Amish farms. They are almost always beautifully maintained
and we saw a farmer harvesting his crop with (draft) horse drawn
equipment. Sadly, I missed getting a photo.
The next morning we were up early and
on our way to Forest River. We met a nice young Amish man, Floyd, who
spent time with us talking about the problems we were having and the
fixes. He discounted the answers we got from Mark at Sanders RV about
the reason the floor was bad and said they would replace the
sidewalls and let us know about the floor. If it was a construction
problem they would fix it at no charge, but if it wasn't, it would
cost $6,000. I nearly had a stroke.
Floyd gave us the name of a little
restaurant in the nearby town where we had breakfast and it was just
what we needed – good coffee, good food, and a great waitress. When
she came to top-off our coffee and ask if we needed anything else,
she mentioned pie and I confessed I'd been wanting ice cream and hot
fudge topping. She said she could pack some up for us, so we had ice
cream and hot fudge for dessert on the road! It was just what we
needed for the 10 hour trip to Rich's brother's house, where we would
stay for the two weeks the RV would be in the shop. We were looking
forward to seeing friends and family and having a couple of restful
weeks.
